Spend two days morning and afternoon game drives looking for the Masai Mara’s big five in the bushes, forests, hills and river crossings. These include the lion, buffalo, rhinoceros, leopard and elephant.
The Maasai Mara National Reserve is an area with very well preserved savannah wilderness, attached to the Serengeti ecosystem in southwestern Kenya. Tanzania. Millions of wildebeest visit these plains during their annual migration. The landscape is made up of grassy plains and rolling hills, and is criss-crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers.
Every year the Mara hosts the greatest natural spectacle in the world, the Great Wildebeest Migration. From July to October, the promise of rain and fresh life-giving grass in the north brings more than 1.3 million wildebeest together in a single large herd. They pour over the border into the Mara, forming a spectacular herd that stretches from horizon to horizon. At the Mara River, they gather on the banks of the river before finally plunging into the raging water to avoid fast currents and lurking crocodiles. These in turn fight with the hippos for the best seats. A great natural spectacle!
